Simplify Meter Installations with Ritherdon Metering Panels
Metering Panels, also known as Meter Management Units (MMU), are pre-wired enclosures designed to simplify the installation of energy meters and associated equipment. They provide a safe and convenient solution for housing all necessary metering components in a single pre-configured unit.
The main purpose of a Metering Panel is to allow current transformers (CTs), meters, fuses, test blocks and other accessories to be neatly mounted and wired together. This saves considerable installation time compared to sourcing and assembling the individual components separately. It also provides protection in a tamper-proof enclosure.
There are two major types of Metering Panels:
CT Metering Panels –
These are designed specifically for use with CT metering where the current being metered exceeds 100A. They allow the CTs to be mounted securely and wired to the meter in a protected enclosure.
Ritherdon offers two models: the Ritherdon CT Chamber follows UK Power Networks specifications and uses a plastic enclosure, while the MOD156 CT Metering Panel is a modular metal-enclosed unit meeting Electricity North West requirements.
Remote Metering Panels –
These facilitate the quick installation of meters designed for remote monitoring and controlling. Ritherdon’s COP2, COP3 and COP5 models meet Electricity North West specifications.
They differ based on voltage (HV/LV), number of meter installations and compliance with the corresponding codes of practice. Each provides a pre-wired metal enclosure to simplify mounting the meters.
When selecting and installing a Metering Panel, it is critical to check the specifications and requirements of your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO). The DNO manages and controls the regional electricity distribution network.
They often have particular specifications that must be followed for safe and compliant connection of new metering systems to the supply.
Note: Ritherdon does not supply meters, please source these separately. We currently supply CTs for the Ritherdon CT Chamber but not for the rest of the metering panels, please seek advice from your electrician and your DNO if in doubt.
Ritherdon’s Metering Panels are designed to meet the standards of major UK DNOs like UK Power Networks and Electricity North West. However, specifications can vary between regions, so it is advisable to engage with your local DNO before purchase and installation (check who is your network operator for your area). This ensures your new Metering Panel is fully approved for connection to the network.
