In recent years, external electrical enclosures have become larger. The increase in size also means enclosures have become more difficult to transport and install.
To improve the design and safety of Ritherdon Enclosures, the size and weight of the Cabinets and Feeder Pillars, as well as their net load, have been carefully considered. The design team added removable lifting rails. This makes it easier and safer to move the cabinets for transport and installation.
Ritherdon has recently added the PVC Cabinet to the range of electrical enclosures, incorporating this design feature into the cabinet. The PVC Cabinet has a reinforced structural subframe with integral lifting points for easy and safe lifting.

Safe Lifting Means a Safe Installation
There is no need for DIY solutions, as the removable lifting rails with high tensile screws have already been included. Lifting loads have been calculated, meaning the PVC Cabinet is designed for safe and easy lifting.
How to Lift a Cabinet Properly?
- Include lifting points in the Cabinet’s design.
- Use correct lifting rails and high tensile screws.
- Ensure even weight distribution during lifting to prevent instability.
- Use appropriate lifting equipment, such as hoists or forklifts, rated for the cabinet’s weight.
What Are High Tensile Screws?
High tensile screws are used for applications that require high stress fastening to ensure safe and reliable lifting.
Understanding Cabinet Weight and Load Capacity
Before lifting, it is important to understand both the weight of the empty cabinet and how much it can hold when filled or populated (net load).
The PVC Cabinet’s reinforced structural subframe allows it to be safely lifted even when fully populated, with a safe lifting load exceeding 500 kg.

Installation Best Practices: Mounting the PVC Cabinet
Once lifted into position, follow these steps for a safe and proper installation:
Step 1: Preparing the Base
- Ensure the plinth is level and has concrete has fully cured.
Step 2: Positioning the PVC Cabinet
- Carefully position the PVC Cabinet onto the Plinth.
- Align the mounting holes at the base of the Cabinet with those on the Plinth.
Step 3: Securing the Cabinet
- Insert the supplied fixing bolts through the holes in the Cabinet base and into the Plinth.
- Tighten securely using a spanner or socket set.
- Ensure the Cabinet is level and properly aligned.
- Verify that the Cabinet door operates smoothly and locks securely.

Removing the Lifting Rails
Steps to Remove the Lifting Rails:
- After installation, detach the lifting rails by removing the high tensile screws securing them to the Cabinet.
- Replace the high tensile screws with the supplied stainless steel screws to effectively seal the holes.
- Install plastic caps over the screws to maintain electrical insulation and a professional finish.
