Ritherdon’s Innovative Leap: Launching a PVC Cabinet Range
Ritherdon, a renowned manufacturer of Stainless Steel Enclosures, is taking a bold step forward. In response to market demands and our commitment to innovation and sustainability, we are excited to announce our new product – a PVC Cabinet.
Why a PVC Cabinet?
The decision to venture into the realm of PVC Electrical Enclosures stems from our desire to create the best electrical enclosures on the market. The industry has been increasingly demanding non-conductive materials for enclosures and we have listened. PVC or Polyvinyl Chloride, offers excellent insulation properties, making it an ideal choice for electrically-insulated electrical enclosures.
Rather than making just a plastic cabinet; we wanted to make the best cabinet possible. Just like we did with our original feeder pillar range, we chose stainless steel because of its durability and noble properties. The same rings true for PVC, which is also 100% recyclable.
Here’s what MD Ben Ritherdon has to say about the new PVC Cabinet Range:
“More of our customers were asking for electrically-insulated cabinets for certain sites. We were not keen on developing a new product made from plastic. However, if our customers needed one, then we decided that ours would just have to be better than what was already out there (i.e. GRP cabinets): it would have to be a sustainable product; solid and safer to install.
The Design Team have done a brilliant job in creating an enclosure made from PVC, with no conductive pathways from inside to the exterior. There is a well-established route to recycling for PVC products (see uPVC window frames) and the cabinet has a structural subframe running from the lifting points, through the backboard(s) to the base, meaning a fully-populated cabinet can be safely hoisted into place on site.

Sustainability at the Forefront
In addition to meeting market demands, we wanted to ensure that our new product aligns with our commitment to sustainability. Manufacturing a PVC Cabinet allows us to reduce our environmental impact. The feeder pillar is constructed from both recycled and virgin PVC and has well established recycling routes. In itself PVC is a low-maintenance material that is highly durable, reducing the need for frequent replacements and thereby minimising waste.

Made in the UK: We are proud to say that our new PVC Cabinet is manufactured right here in our Darwen factory. This not only allows us to maintain our high-quality standards but also supports local industry and reduces transport emissions. Reducing emissions means a reduced carbon footprint not only for us but also for our customer base, further contributing to global sustainability. It is a no-brainer to choose locally manufactured electrical enclosures.
Leveraging our Expertise: Product development is at the core of what we do. This new enclosure has been entirely designed in-house by our Technical Design team, who have years of experience in electrical enclosure manufacturing.
