A number of Ritherdon’s stainless steel feeder pillars have now been installed along the Manchester tram system. The tram system in Manchester now carries 22 million passengers every year into the heart of the city centre, with almost 70km of track. Since 1992, the system has also more than doubled in size. Ritherdon are proud to be providing external electrical enclosures to Siemens and Manchester City Council to support the infrastructure of the famous city landmark.
Regarding the Ritherdon feeder pillars, Ian Fletcher – Contract Manager (North West) for Siemens – said:

The Ritherdon feeder pillar is designed with an integral root & body and a detachable door. To ensure a long service life, the complete unit is manufactured from 2mm thick stainless steel and is available either in the natural stainless steel finish (pictured) or with a powder-coated finish (various colours available).
Access for cable ducting is provided through the lower front section of the pillar and duct apertures in the sides and back of the root. An earth cable is provided for bonding the door to the body, with two M6 studs complete with nuts and washers.
A number of different fixings are available for the Ritherdon feeder pillars including:
- Tri-key cam-lock (standard)
- Stainless steel Allen screw 25mm long
- Stainless steel “Pin-hex” dome headed screw 25mm long
- Pin-hex camlock (10mm A/F, 4mm pin)
