R22 FireSeal is a variation of our standard R22 Meter Box Repair Unit. Like the standard R22 unit, it is designed to be retrofitted and replace the existing GRP surface mounted gas meter boxes; in this case with a fire resistant gas meter box.
A common issue being picked up in fire risk assessments is when gas meters have been installed along fire escape routes in multi-occupancy residential buildings. Standard gas meter boxes do not provide adequate fire resistance and it is recommended that these meters should be covered with a fire resistant gas meter box.
The R22 FireSeal features intumescent seals right around the door and between the back of the unit and the wall. Ritherdon also developed a method of adaptable pipe entry points which are sealed with fire resistant filler after fitting. Fire tested in accordance with BSEN 1364-1: 1999 utilising the principles of BSEN 1366-3: 2009, providing a minimum of 90 minutes of fire resistance.

The R22 FireSeal is externally fixed and retrofits to wall behind the gas meter using inward facing flanges with fixing holes at the back of the unit. The intumescent strips at the back of the unit create a seal when pressed against the wall. In the event of a fire, the intumescent material expands, further strengthening the barrier against fire and smoke. The R22 FireSeal has two possible entry points for pipes at the bottom of the unit of maximum size 95mm x 70mm, however only one can be used.
