Ritherdon developed and tested the FireSeal back in 2012.  Since then we’ve supplied quite a few made to measure FireSeals of various sizes.

The FireSeal reinstates acceptable fire protection for old meter boxes – and other boxes, such as junction boxes, or apertures that may need to be covered. Here’s an example where an old meter box was identified as a fire hazard and required fire protection:

This old meter box was part of a block of flats, each with their own meter box placed next to each home and opening up into the communal areas. It was agreed that all meter boxes required an upgrade and a batch quantity of FireSeals was made to order for this customer.

Ritherdon developed the FireSeal based on our meter box repair units, to easily repair a meter box or an aperture that needs fire protection. Just like our meter box repair units, the FireSeal can be retrofitted over the existing meter box. There’s no need to disconnect the utilities. It is very important to measure up correctly for a FireSeal and the units are usually made to measure. The FireSeal unit must sit flush with the wall.

A Solution for One-Off Fire Protection

FireSeals are typically made to measure to cover a specific size and made in batches, meaning customers benefit from quantity break pricing. However, there are times where just one or two FireSeals are required and costs rise. So, we came up with an off the shelf size to cover a multitude of sizes. We have also priced this competitively to offer a cost-effective option to fire protect those one-offs.

The off the shelf FireSeal covers an existing meter box or aperture in the wall that measures a maximum of 710mm High x 510mm Wide x 50mm Deep. If the meter box or aperture you are covering falls into this size, this an excellent option. We’ve tried to encompass the most popular sizes over the years, to come to a size that will be able to cover a wide variety of different meter boxes and/or apertures.

We’ve made this even easier as it’s already available online (click on Shop at the top of the screen). Now available from stock on a 48-hour delivery. This size of FireSeal provides 30 minutes of fire protection, as demonstrated in testing to BS EN 1366-3 and BS EN 1363-1.
