Enhanced Security and Performance for Ritherdon Enclosures
Effective July 2025
Ritherdon is upgrading its high security lock option to the new Tamper Resistant Lock (TRL) to provide enhanced security and improved usability across our Enclosure Range.
What's Changing?
We are phasing out our current high security keyed lock option (also known as 1-333 and 333 Locks) in favour of the superior Tamper Resistant Cam Lock (TRL).
Old Lock: Keyed Lock (1-333 and 333 Locks)
New Lock: Tamper Resistant Cam Lock (TRL)
This change has come into effect from July 2025.
Which Enclosures Does This Apply To?
This new lock option applies to the following Enclosure Ranges:
- RB Cabinet Range
- R Lift-off Feeder Pillar Range
- RH Hinged Feeder Pillar Range
- BT Termination Pillars
- PS60 Permanent and TBS60 Temporary Supply Enclosures
- Meter Box Repair Door and Frames & Meter Boxes
This upgrade is especially beneficial for RB Cabinets, PS60s, TBS60s, and RH Pillars as they feature neoprene gaskets around the door that create tight seals requiring more force to open.
Note: This does not apply to RMC Cabinet Range or the PS300 and TBS300 Cabinets in the Power Supply Enclosure range, as these use a three point locking system with padlock handles with shrouds rather than cam locks.
Why the Upgrade to TRL?
Superior Strength and Durability
The new Tamper Resistant Lock is manufactured from 304 stainless steel, providing exceptional strength that is particularly important for enclosures with IP64 door seals. The compressed neoprene gaskets in RB Cabinets and RH Pillars create tight seals that demand a robust locking mechanism, the TRL delivers exactly that reliability.
Advanced Tamper Resistance
The TRL features a unique three-point contact compression centre ring with an innovative oval design. This specialized mechanism requires specific key operation, making access significantly more secure than traditional locks while preventing tampering attempts.
Improved Operation and Maintenance
- Smooth surface design eliminates leverage points and prevents insertion of foreign objects
- Enhanced turn-and-pull mechanism provides secure key engagement and makes opening tight doors much easier
- Better corrosion resistance matches the durability of Ritherdon enclosures made from stainless steel grades 4003, 304, and 316
- Reduced maintenance thanks to the sleek design that avoids build-up of dust and dirt
The result? Opening and closing the tightly compressed doors of RB Cabinets and RH Pillars becomes much easier while maintaining superior security.

What this means for you
Future Orders
The TRL will become our standard high security option for all future orders requiring controlled access as opposed to the standard tri key cam lock.
Other Applications
When keyed options are required for other enclosures, such as Meter Box Repair Doors and Frames, we recommend using the Tamper Resistant Lock for optimal security and performance.
