The Misadventures in Marketing
Ah Marketing,
Curious about what’s involved?
Well follow me over the next year as I learn the ropes as a new Digital Marketer Apprentice sharing the tasks, trials and tribulations of the role.
Here’s to the journey.
Welcome to the Misadventures in Marketing.
Well, it has been an interesting yet somewhat terrifying first month here at Ritherdon, partly due to the new job but mostly due to it being located in the most Covid infected place in the UK.
In all seriousness, it’s been a pretty good first month so far with both expected and the unexpected happening on a regular basis. One minute I’m attending a meeting on different products and the next I’m building a chair, pitching marketing ideas, learning about SEO or editing photos. As cliché as it sounds no day is the same here.
One thing that’s constant though is the opportunity for self-learning. My apprenticeship requires me to do an amount of self-learning every week so every day I get to take courses, read, watch and study to improve my skills in marketing and content creation, which Ritherdon has encouraged me to do so every step of the way.

But since I have started, I have had my ideas for international SEO greenlit, filmed an interview with Ritherdon’s resident artist, Nicola Ellis, expanded my knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Premier Pro and learned how to create and edit websites. Summing up, I was wrong about not being able to get creative.
It is a different environment compared to my previous roles. Thankfully though one of the best aspects of previous jobs has followed me to my new workplace, a close-knit team that get on with one another whilst working and contributing however they can.
Of course, I have been doing learning courses for Apprentify, my apprenticeship provider, check them out here. At this point in the course the lessons are mostly introductory sessions, safeguarding, introduction to businesses and (shudder) Maths and English tests.

Thankfully, Mark, my trainer, will be providing a full day lesson, the Intro to Digital Marketing on June 30th that I will be attending from the comfort of my own home (which is great cause I get a lie in).
Looking to the next month, July is going to be busy, beginning to begin the edit of the interview I did and gathering B Roll footage for it, begin my first full day training with Apprentify and beginning working with other marketing teams from clients like Instavolt, a key player in the UK’s electrical charging companies, to create new marketing ideas. (It’s kind of a big deal).
Looks like it’s going to be a busy month.
So, has this helped shed some light on Marketing?
