What is Jointing?
The joining process is an essential part of any manufacturing process.
Jointing is how metal manufacturers like us join the different parts of their products together, and different enclosures can require different jointing techniques to be completed.
Since we manufacture enclosures of various different sizes and specifications, we use wide range of different jointing techniques, our most common including MIG , TIG and Spot Welding as well as Riveting.
MIG/TIG Welding:
Both are types of Arc Welding, creating an electric arc to weld metal together, and both use Inert Gas to prevent atmospheric contamination during welds, however both are different in how their arcs are used.
MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welds use electricity to create an arc, melting metals and joining them using filler wire fed constantly through a welding torch.
TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welds use a non-consumable Tungsten electrode to create the arc, using a separate rod to fill the weld.
Our MIG Welding makes up for most of our welding activity, allowing us to perform strong welds quickly. When the weld is too hard to reach for the MIG Weld, we use TIG Welding for greater accuracy.

Spot Welding
The Spot Weld is used on products that use overlapping metal. While this form of welding is most commonly associated with car body manufacturing, we use it for our National Highways products and R5 Meter Boxes, providing a fast weld for thinner metals.
Riveting:
Riveting joins two pieces of metal together using a metal part called a Rivet. The Riveting process is very useful as it offers manufacturers a versatile alternative to welding.
At Ritherdon, we typically use Blind Rivets as they allow us to join metal together without having access to all sides of the enclosure. This makes them ideal for working on bigger products, such as our FireSeals and R Pillars.
We also use Sealed Rivets, which have the same features as a Blind Rivet, but fully seal the puncture, preventing any outside solid or liquid ingress.
