Nottingham City Homes is responsible for the maintenance of 30,000 homes, many of which have external GRP meter boxes. The boxes are very often a target for vandalism or become damaged through normal use.
Problem
- Utilities Companies will not connect a supply unless the meter box is secure
- Damaged boxes and missing doors are a danger and unsightly
- GRP boxes are prone to damage by vandalism and wear and tear
- They become “grubby” in appearance and are difficult to clean
Sourcing spares for the wide variety of GRP boxes in use was problematic and the cost of replacing the boxes was expensive because utility supplies often needed to be disconnected. Gary Shepherd is the Team Leader at Nottingham City Homes and is responsible for organising the repair of the majority of these meter boxes.
