Grades and Finishes of Ritherdon Enclosures

Grades and Finishes of Ritherdon Enclosures

All Ritherdon enclosures, feeder pillars and cabinets are made from Stainless Steel and available in three different grades: 4003, 304 and 316 to suit different applications and locations.

We recommend using different grades of steel depending on where the cabinets and pillars will be installed.

Grades of Stainless Steel Available

For inland locations, use our 4003 grade, which is always powder coated for additional durability, performance, and for a smarter look.

For harsher environments, such as coastal locations, we recommend using 304 and 316 grades.

If you are placing the enclosure very close to the sea or in highly corrosive environments, we recommend the use of 316 Marine Grade stainless steel.

Stainless steel is an iron alloy known for its durability and corrosion resistance. As an alloy, each grade of steel has different compositions, each with specific properties. Read more on the properties of stainless steel.

Even though Ritherdon enclosures are made from stainless steel, we still recommend to powder coat to benefit from the extra protection and achieve that glossy painted finished we are known for!

Standard Powder Coated Finish

The three grades of steel we use for the cabinets and feeder pillars we make are all available in a powder-coated finish*.  We offer standard paint colours to suit typical urban and rural environments.

There is no extra cost for powder coating when you choose from our four Standard Colours:

BlackRAL 9005 Gloss Black
Dark GreenBS 4800 14 C40 Gloss Green
Light GreyBS 381C 631 Light Grey Gloss
Dark GreyBS 381C 632 Dark Grey Gloss
RedRAL 3020 Gloss Traffic Red

Red powder coating is used to denote temporary installations, see examples of our red TBS60 and TBS300 cabinets, for temporary power connections.

*Our 4003 grade of stainless steel is always powder coated to provide the best performance and quality finish. High-quality powder coating to a minimum of 50 microns.

The powder coating options are available within 48 hours from receipt of order or in 7 days if in stock unpainted.

Natural Metal Finish

We provide a natural metal finish in our 304 and 316 grades of steel. It is a simple, bare metal look. Please bear in mind that there are variations in the end result due to the nature of the raw material which could vary in appearance from enclosure to enclosure.

The Natural finish option is a more labour intensive process and has a typical lead time of 4 weeks.

If you are looking for an equivalent Ritherdon pillar or cabinet with a ‘galvanised look’, this is the finish you should opt for.  When we first started making feeder pillars, we decided to depart from the traditional fabrication of thick galvanised zinc-coated, mild steel pillars. We chose stainless steel and set out to design and manufacture sleek, light yet robust, outdoor enclosures.

Other Colours Kept in Stock

We also keep white and brown in stock for our meter boxes, repair door and frames and Fireseals. Whilst white and brown is not your typical choice of colour for roadside cabinets and feeder pillars – if you do have the odd job, you’ll benefit from little to no extra cost! Here are the paint coders for reference:

WhiteRAL 9010 Satin White
BrownRAL 8007 Gloss Brown
Additional Finishes and Custom Colours

Ritherdon has in-house paint shop facility, and we are able to provide additional finishes such as anti-graffiti, leatherette and custom colours.

Please let us know your requirements and we’ll do our best to accommodate them. See a few examples of custom jobs, in this post on Colourful Enclosures.

We hope you’ve found this information useful, please have a look at our range of enclosures – R pillars, RH pillars, RB Cabinets and RMC Enclosures to find the right enclosure for your next project.
