Wates are currently refurbishing Merridale Court for Wolverhampton Homes. The works carried out have had to take into consideration many factors, including fire protection. In the case of Merridale Court it’s also a conservation area. Upgrading the conservation area is an added difficulty.
What was the issue?
Further to a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) being carried out, it was stated that the external meters within the walkways, were a fire risk.
The walkways at Merridale Court are the means of escape for residents in the event of a fire. The meter boxes would either need to be re-sited to eliminate the fire hazard or upgraded to provide the required fire resistance.
What was the solution?
Wates opted to upgrade the meter boxes by covering them with the Ritherdon FireSeal providing a minimum of 60 minutes protection.

The Ritherdon FireSeal tested to British Standards EN 1363 and EN1366 by Chiltern International Fire (now Exova BM TRADA). The FireSeal provides a barrier to fire penetration for at least 60 minutes. Find the testing certificates under our Technical Information.
